Most 9th grade orchestra students take Concert Orchestra (9th graders may audition for Chamber or Philharmonic orchestras). Students in Concert Orchestra perform at all orchestra concerts (4), ISSMA organizational contest, and other clinics as they arise.
Short after school rehearsals are required the day before a concert (4/year).
Students in this orchestra continue to refine the musical skills acquired in middle school orchestra in preparation for future placement into Sinfonia, Philharmonic, or Chamber orchestras.
Students can expect to work on grade 1.5-2.5 literature and the technique and music theory required to perform that literature. This includes, but is not limited to: one and two octave scales, fundamental bow strokes, identifying and performing expressive articulations, introducing 3rd position shifting, introducing/refining vibrato, music fluency exercises, and more.
